Bifold Marshalsea Work Placement Opportunity - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Work experience forms a large part of the study programmes for students at Bridgwater College, who are working with companies like Bifold Marshalsea to create amazing opportunities for learners.

The College’s Engineering department has grown considerably over the last few years, and plays a key part in the industry for the South West. The students are dedicated, passionate and striving for apprenticeships or University places.

A group of Level 2 and Level 3 engineering students were given the opportunity to visit Bifold Marshalsea, who have opened up the potential for a minimum of 3 apprenticeships with Bridgwater College.

Bifold Marshalsea Hydraulics is a manufacturer and supplier to the international offshore oil and gas industry. It demands the very highest standards and the reputation of Marshalsea precedes itself. As many Engineering companies are finding, there is a gap appearing in their teams, and the need for new and exciting ventures with our young people are important to keep the industry moving forward.

The group were able to tour the workshop, with its full range of machines and testing equipment, and also speak to the employees about how they keep the high standards that are vital for the ocean pumps and valves. It gave them a great insight in to how the company works, what is expected of them and the products they will be contributing to.

Work experience has played a key part in building a relationship with Marshalsea. It has given the company the opportunity to trial and select students for the new apprenticeship programme. The successful students will progress on to an apprenticeship programme that will see them through up to four years of their engineering career.

Student Max Reynolds, who is studying the Level 3 Manufacturing Engineering course at Bridgwater College said,

“I really enjoyed the visit, the staff were all approachable and easy to talk to, and I can see myself working as part of their team in the future.”
