BTC Hairdressing Student Wins AHT Competition - Bridgwater & Taunton College

BTC Hairdressing student, Karen Harvey, has won the Creative Hairdressing category at the AHT (Association of Hairdressers & Therapies) South West Regional Heats.

AHT is a national competition that enhances learner technical and employability skills, as well as testing skills under pressure to prepare them for the trade.

Karen said,

The competition was brought to my attention by my lecturers, who suggested that I go for it. Once I found out the theme was carnival, I knew straight away that I wanted to do a Day of the Dead look, so began planning and making my props and extensions. My daughter Kiera Harvey was my model for the day.

Karen also commented

I really enjoyed the competition and honestly did not think that I would win. I am now looking forward to the National Finals in May in Blackpool!

BTC Media Make-up student, Tatiana Turley, received second prize in the Body Art category and will also be attending the Nationals in Blackpool.

Bridget Date, BTC Hairdressing Lecturer, said,

Both Karen and Tatiana are exceptionally well organised and dedicated and this paid off on the day!
