BTC U18’s move back to the top of the League - Bridgwater & Taunton College

BTC/BTFC headed to Salisbury looking to register their 3rd victory over the same opposition this season and started brightly with some good chances in the early stages.

It didn’t take long for BTC/BTFC to get the break though as Scott applied pressure to the keeper and hurrying his clearance which fell to Watts on the edge of the box to strike home, 1-0.  BTC/BTFC doubled their lead shortly after as a dangerous delivery from Byrne fell invitingly to Cottrill who smashed the ball past the keeper. As the half progressed, BTC/BTFC had plenty of chances to further their lead by finding the final touch. Ham, Byrne and Cottrill controlled possession in the middle of the field allowing Watts, Chivers and Scott to cause problems in the final third. The back 4 of Purser, Durrant, Kruszynski and debutant Byron nulled the advances of the opposition limiting them to very few chances, one of which forced a smart save from Allen in goal.

The second half saw BTC/BTFC carrying on the same attacking intent displayed in the first period and it wasn’t long before Chivers drove down the right before beating 2 defenders to get into the box before being brought down for a penalty which was hammered home by Watts to double his tally. Despite being three goals up, BTC/BTFC kept their foot on the gas and Cottrill perfectly carved open the opposition defence to send Byrne through on goal to finish calmly. Salisbury began committing more men forward and had a few good chances, two of which forced some stunning saves from Allen, determined to keep his clean sheet. Then BTC/BTFC broke on the counter and earned a free kick in a wide position, it was fizzed into the box by Byrne and Scott got in front of his man to glance home. Scott completed his brace within minutes of his first, again following some good work from Byrne forcing a top save from the keeper, however, Scott reacted quickly to tap in the rebound. BTC/BTFC was comfortably controlling possession as the game was drawing to a close and continued to hunt for more goals. The final goal of the game as Watts clipped a ball over the top and the tenacious Plant hunted down the opposition keeper, dispossessed him to roll the ball home and deservedly get himself on the score sheet.

Some honourable mentions for the man of the match, Kruszynski managed the defence well alongside Byron with a very impressive debut. As well as Chivers on the right defending well and offering a threat going forward. However, Cottrill just edges it with a goal and an assist paired with a mature performance, reaping the rewards of his hard work.
