Team BTC’s annual Sports Awards evening took place on 17 May at the McMillan Theatre. We were joined by Josh Gould, a former Sport & Exercise Science student who started his goalkeeping career whilst at the College. He has done amazingly well since to climb through the ranks and has now signed for Championship team Swansea City FC.
Highlights of the evening included the ‘Luke Buckingham’ Coach of the Year award, which was presented to Gareth Lewis by Luke’s family, Holly, Gill and Bob Buckingham.
Athlete of the Year was awarded to Luke Manley. In his first season at College he has represented the Men’s 1st team, the U18s who compete on a Saturday in the South West Counties League, Somerset, Taunton Town FC, and also the England Colleges FA.
Sports Personality of the Year was awarded to Tom Stephens. His on-field ability has also been recognised throughout the year and Tom has played in the Under 18s national Premiership throughout this season with Bristol Bears, a professional Premiership rugby club academy.
Team BTC Manager Jamie Laird said,
“It was another fantastic evening to celebrate all of or students’ success both individually and as a team. A big thank you to Assistant Principal Jason Gunningham for hosting the evening. After listening to our students achievements this season it really does make you stand back and see how many talented athletes we have here at the College. Also a thank you to professional footballer and former Team BTC student Josh Gould for presenting the awards along with Bob, Gill and Holly Buckingham for presenting the Luke Buckingham Coach of the Year Award. Our attentions now turn to making next season even better.”
