Conversation Café Celebrates National Picnic Week with International Foods Feast - Bridgwater & Taunton College

BTC’s Conversation Café marked National Picnic Week and the end of term with an international foods picnic at the Taunton campus.

The picnic event was a great opportunity for adult ESOL learners to share and exchange recipes from their own heritages, including Iraqi, Japanese, French, Russian, Ukrainian and Lithuanian dishes.

The Conversation Café is a weekly opportunity to practise conversational English in a friendly and supportive environment. Learners’ first languages include Ukrainian, Arabic, Russian, Japanese and French. The Café runs every Thursday morning at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at the College’s Taunton campus.

Learners who attend the Café also take part in a National Reading Agency Challenge; reading six books in order to achieve a Reading Ahead certificate. They choose the books they wish to read themselves from a variety of books in the LRC pitched at various reading levels.
