One of the many benefits of studying at BTC is their courses provide a combination of real-world experience and academic rigour. This is certainly true of the new T Level qualifications launched by the Government in September 2021, where a substantial industry placement is built into the programme.
These two-year technical courses provide school leavers with a respected qualification that is an alternative to A Levels and developed with the support of businesses and employers. During a T Level, students spend 80 percent of their time in classroom learning and 20 percent at an ‘on-the-job’ industry placement.
Four students studying the Digital Production, Design & Development T Level at the Taunton campus recently completed a placement at digital signage, advertising and innovations company Copper Dot Digital.
Founder Oliver Pyle-Santini reflected,
My experience of working with BTC has been excellent. The communication was clear and concise which made the process hassle-free and enjoyable.
The students I interviewed were bright, engaging and positive about themselves and the future. I feel this is testament to the education they have received, as much as their own personalities.
The College has invested £1.6 million in the Taunton campus, including a dedicated Digital Suite to house high-spec computers with a large viewing screen, break-out rooms, a seating area and conference space to encourage collaboration, discussions, research and independent work. The Digital T Level covers a range of topics including digital analysis and environments, IT systems and encryption, software design and development, programming and communication technologies.
Thrilokesh Ramakrishnan who previously attended Heathfield School commented,
The placement at Copper Dot was really great. It gave me an insight into the business world and reinforced what we’ve been studying at College. When I complete the T Level, I hope to study business and computing at university or secure an Apprenticeship, and the T Level qualification is the perfect preparation.
