Ex Bristol City Goalkeeper Becomes New BTC GK Coach

Team BTC are excited to announce they have recruited former Bristol City goalkeeper Steve Philips as their new head goalkeeper coach.

Steve made over 350 appearances for both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers and was head goalkeeper coach for Yeovil Town FC last season.

He is a UEFA B licence holder which will add to the 6 UEFA licenced coaches currently involved with Team BTC.

Steve said,

“I’m excited to be a part of an organisation that recognises the importance of investing in the whole team – all too often goalkeepers are an afterthought, but Bridgwater & Taunton College’s decision to invest in their keeper development is a reflection of their commitment to individual player development. With our combined efforts, I truly believe there won’t be a better college for young keepers to grow and develop both on and off the field.”

Team BTC Manager Jamie Laird said,

“This is fantastic news for the College and Team BTC football, and will be of huge benefit to our players. To have someone like Steve with his wealth of playing experience and knowledge just adds to the outstanding coaching that our students already receive here at the College.”

Steve also runs a bespoke goalkeeper session for aspiring goalkeepers up to the age of 16 at Bridgwater & Taunton College on a Tuesday evening on the brand new 3G pitch. Steve is assisted by some of the current Team BTC goalkeepers.
