Furniture making apprentice Nadia, is best in the UK! - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Local joinery apprentice, Nadia Connabeer, has been named the Screwfix Trade Apprentice of 2015 following a nationwide search for the best future trade professionals in the UK.

Nadia, 21, who attends Bridgwater College, has not only been awarded the title, but will also receive the top prize of a £10,000 ultimate business and trade bundle including everything they need to get a kick-start in the industry.

Nadia attended a grand final at Google HQ on 5 June and took part in a series of challenges and an interview to prove she had what it took to be the best in the business. She wowed a judging panel with her passion and dedication to her trade. Her enthusiasm, drive and commitment to joinery and furniture making also stood out amongst the finalists, along with her ambition to teach her trade to others. Finally, her extensive portfolio in furniture making showed the judges a range of very impressive and bespoke pieces of furniture she is able to craft.

Nadia commented,

“I am delighted that I have won the title of Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2015. I love furniture making and I’m constantly thinking of the next thing I can build! I’ve had a fantastic year so far and hopefully this award will help me inspire other people to take up such a rewarding profession.”

In its first year, this highly competitive award led by leading multi-channel retailer, Screwfix, aims to recognise and champion the best trade apprentices in the UK.

The ultimate business and trade bundle worth £10,000, which has been presented to Nadia, includes a printing design package supplied by MOO, a Nexus smartphone and tablet supplied by Google, a top of the range laptop with all accessories and £4,000 worth of funding to spend on career enhancing courses and workshops. As well as this, Bridgwater College will also be provided with £2,000 worth of Screwfix vouchers to spend on workshop equipment, helping colleges to continue providing outstanding services for tomorrow’s trade professionals.
