Students on the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science course at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) recently had the rare opportunity to learn from one of the industry’s leading professionals, as elite-level sports therapist Rebecca Behan delivered a week of practical massage workshops.
Renowned for her work with high-performance athletes and professional sports teams—including returning from her third consecutive year with England Rugby at the Six Nations—Rebecca brought a wealth of real-world experience and inspiration to BTC’s classrooms.
Her visit offered Year 2 students invaluable insights into the world of elite sports therapy. Across the week, students engaged in practical sessions focusing on advanced massage techniques, injury prevention strategies, and post-event recovery. Rebecca also offered career advice, shared stories from her work in the field, and emphasised the importance of communication, professionalism, and ongoing development in sports therapy.
Jonny Hunt, Course Leader for Sport and Exercise Science at BTC, said:
“It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn directly from someone operating at the highest level of the profession. Rebecca’s knowledge, energy, and passion for sports therapy were truly inspirational. Experiences like this are invaluable in preparing our learners for the next step in their careers.”
Students left the sessions feeling motivated and more confident in their practical abilities, with many saying the experience had strengthened their ambition to pursue careers in sports therapy and rehabilitation.
This workshop series is part of BTC’s wider commitment to providing dynamic, industry-informed learning opportunities. The Sport and Exercise Science curriculum is designed to give students a competitive edge through hands-on experiences, specialist teaching, and strong industry links.
