Horticulture students visit historic Hestercombe - Bridgwater & Taunton College

A group of Level 3 Horticulture students recently visited Hestercombe Gardens to study the history and development of the gardens. As part of their course, they are studying a garden history unit and the Hestercombe estate provides the perfect case study by demonstrating the work of several influential garden designers including Gertrude Jekyll and Sir Edwin Lutyens.

Tom Cunningham, Course Leader for Horticulture said,

“The students benefitted from a fantastic tour by two members of the gardens team which gave them a real insight into the work of key garden designers. Garden history forms a vital part of the horticulture course and a knowledge of the management of historic gardens is essential for those wishing to pursue careers in that field.”

The Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture provides learners with both knowledge and skills covering a broad range of horticulture topics including pruning & propagation, science & hydroponics and garden design & landscaping.
