Macbeth Outdoor Theatre Performance Comes to Cannington - Bridgwater & Taunton College

The Walled Gardens of Cannington will be welcoming back Bridgwater College’s Drama Academy with their open-air production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 June, 7pm.

In the year that commemorates 400 years since Shakespeare’s death, the Drama Academy bring Macbeth into the modern age, with a production that questions UK devolution, terrorism and Britishness. Bridgwater College’s Drama Academy were last at The Walled Gardens of Cannington in 2013 with an all-female production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Paige Mantyk, 17, from North Petherton, who plays Donalbain and one of the witches said,

“Being part of the Drama Academy has been a real privilege. It has given me a chance to really look into classical theatre, which I have never really had the chance to do. Performing Macbeth as an outdoor performance has really challenged me to project and has enabled me to enhance my stage voice further. I cannot wait to perform our modern twist on Macbeth and would love to have this opportunity again as it has been an amazing experience.”

Molly Blake, 19, from Bridgwater, who plays Lady Macbeth said,

“Practising for an outdoor performance, especially with something as prestigious as Shakespeare, has been a welcome challenge and one that I am extremely excited to perform.”

Bring along your picnics, blankets, folding chairs and friends and family to enjoy this wonderful open-air production.

Tickets in advance cost £10 for adults and £6 for concessions. To buy tickets visit store.bridgwater.ac.uk or visit The Walled Gardens of Cannington’s Gift Shop.
