More than an education at BTC - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) is renowned as a first-class provider of skills development and academic qualifications. But at BTC, students have access to far more than academic and vocational study alone.

We are passionate about the mental and physical wellbeing of our students, so ensure that alongside skills and knowledge development, students are also being equipped with the soft skills needed for higher study, an apprenticeship or employment. That’s why, with employers, we developed the BTC Advantage.

The BTC Advantage is a unique programme designed to equip our learners with effective learning skills, better communication skills, improved confidence, increased mindfulness of the wider community, higher aspirations and feeling safer, happier and healthier.

The BTC Advantage is core to all of our programmes delivered, including school leaver programmes and apprenticeships. As a result, students have reported feeling more supported and an improved sense of confidence for their next steps after completing their studies with us.

The College also heavily invests in an extensive enrichment programme for 16-18 year olds. In addition to activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh award, we also have developed a vast array of BTC Academies at the College. Academies include, eSports, fashion, technology, show choir, drama, live events and Team BTC for sports. Discover the full offering here.

Mental wellbeing and feeling supported is core to the College’s ethos. Unlike some colleges, we have a dedicated counselling service and full-time wellbeing team to support those students in times of need.

We are extremely proud of our students who are passionate about mental health and have raised money or created awareness campaigns locally. Most recently, BTC’s digital media design student Emily Bradley won the Global Innovators Award at the international Apps for Good Awards.

After struggling with her own mental health, Emily developed a mental health app named ‘Space Bubble’, designed to help teenagers keep their mental health on-track through daily, tailored activities.
