Quantock students keep Castle cooking - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying Professional Cookery at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Taunton campus spent two days supporting celebrity chefs at Taunton Feast Food and Drink Festival 2018 at the Castle Hotel.

Many of the students only started their course a week previous to being asked to support the cooking demonstrations of Chefs such as Michael Caines MBE, of The Coach House by Michael Caines at Kentisbury Grange and Jude Kereama, from the Kota Restaurant in Cornwall.

Jamie Jones, Professional Cookery student said,

Seeing a Two Star Michelin Chef work literally a metre away was really inspirational. I was inspired to watch what he was doing on stage and see how skilled he is, and feel his passion for food.

Rebecca Tomlinson, Course Leader of Hospitality & Catering at the College added,

I couldn’t be prouder of our students who gave up their weekend to support the local community in this great event.

In addition to supporting Chefs at the Festival, the students also made cakes for guests to decorate and take away, raising £111 for Love Musgrove.

Steve Ashworth, Co-Founder of Taunton Feast Food & Drink Festival said,

Food is about more than just eating. It is about giving back and bringing through the next generation.

Working with the students, gives them an opportunity to see a mix of different chefs and to develop their own skills and interaction with food. It was brilliant to see the students being enthusiastic about being involved with Feast and their support was part of its success.

This was an amazing opportunity for the students of Bridgwater & Taunton College, one which many others can only dream of. The students are also fortunate to be taught within the College’s state-of-the-art facility, The Quantock Restaurant, which was reopened in November 2017 by Mary Berry after a £1 million refurbishment and boasts new training kitchens and a dining room that seats 65.
