Students achieve FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Level 3 Year 1 Football Coaching students successfully complete their 1st 4 Sport FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football. Over a 12 week period, 16 students were put through their paces by FA Tutor and Course Leader at Bridgwater & Taunton College, Michelle Yeowell.

The FA provides a series of training courses for coaches from Level 1 through to the most advanced UEFA Pro Licence. The courses are packed with expert knowledge and cover all areas of player development.

The FA Level 1 course provides an introduction to organisation and delivery of safe and enjoyable coaching sessions for players. The course provided the students with the knowledge to deliver practical drills to develop player’s technical skills such as shooting, turning with the ball and heading.

Over the 12 weeks, they completed their FA Safeguarding and FA emergency first aid training along with having to deliver a 20 minute session individually and were assessed by FA qualified tutors.

During the course the students completed seven workshops combining theory and practical all designed to support the coaches in planning, leading and reflecting. Six online modules and two specialised workshops FA First Aid and FA Safeguarding were each delivered by a specific tutor at college. On completion of all these elements and a completed learner journal the students have successful achieved the FA Level 1 Coaching Award.

Shakira Howard said,

“Throughout the 12 weeks we have prepared in various ways like coaching our peers as well as younger students who have come across to College to help us put on a session. At the beginning of the year we began to work in pairs to help us boost our confidence more then we started to work individually to prepare us for the assessment. Being able to work with people like Michelle was an amazing opportunity. Next year I am looking to move on to my FA Level 2 qualification.”

Michelle Yeowell, FA Tutor and Level 3 Football Coaching course leader, added,

“All 16 students have now begun their coaching journey and have completed their first coaching qualification. They will hopefully go onto complete many more whilst studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College and beyond. This will give them the skills, knowledge and qualifications to start working in the sports coaching industry. At Bridgwater & Taunton College we will continue to support their development and make them as employable as we can until they finish studying with us.”
