Students get first-hand look at life in the Police - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying the Level 2 Public and Emergency Service course at Bridgwater College visited Bridgwater Police Station recently to experience what life is like in the police service.

The group of 21 students visited the brand new state-of-the-art facility to gain a better understanding of how a police station runs, and experience the environment first-hand. The students were escorted on a tour by Sargent Simon Smith who showed them the various departments housed at the site, including the custody suite, holding area, custody cells, photography and DNA rooms and an interview suite.

Sargent Smith commented on the day,

“This was a really important experience for these students, not only for their course, but also to educate them about our custodial system.”

Student, Jemima Williams said,

“It was an eye opening experience. I really enjoyed learning about the custody process, for example, the different levels of people in custody and the use of different types of equipment.”

Tyne Govier, Course Leader for Public and Emergency Services at Bridgwater College said,

“We use these types of visit to inspire our students and help them to better understand service life and the expectations that come with it. It also gives them the opportunity to work alongside professionals in this industry, which can only benefit them further in their future careers.”
