Supporting adults returning to education - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Learning is a lifelong journey that never stops and age shouldn’t be a deterrent from picking up new skills, or developing the ones you already have. Re-training can be an exhilarating experience where you can discover parts of yourself and abilities you didn’t even know existed.

In the current economic climate, boosting your skill-set can be a lifeline. Adding more strings to your bow can increase employability and job security.

According to official figures, the number of people claiming unemployment benefits surged to 2.6 million between March and June of this year and almost 3.8 million jobs had been furloughed by 23 April.

Some people are considering a career change due to necessity, whilst others have realised that the career path they were previously on does not suit them and are using their time away from work to embark on a new journey.

Whatever your situation, thinking to the future is an exciting experience that can open many doors not yet considered.

BTC offers a huge variety of adult learning and training courses which are available for individuals and businesses alike.

The College has committed to using the Adult Skills funding provided by the government’s £1.6 billion investment in their Plans for Jobs pledge. BTC is using this funding to offer support to the unemployed and those looking to retrain or upskill. The College is working to provide more Apprenticeship and Traineeship opportunities and to offer learners a pathway to Further and Higher Education.

BTC has worked closely with companies to ensure that their courses are up-to-date with employer’s needs and industry requirements. Its state-of-the-art facilities guarantee that students of all ages are safe in the knowledge that their studies are at the forefront of industry development.

The courses on offer cover a plethora of sectors including Counselling & Personal Development, Teaching and Training, Nuclear, Accountancy and many many more.

BTC offers courses which do not require prior qualifications or experience, and Distance Learning courses so attendance at the College is not necessary. Access to learning is taken seriously by the College, and a large number of courses are tailored to meet the needs of those returning to education.

Many of the qualities you possess are ideal if channelled in a new direction. Retraining offers people an opportunity to upskill and to put the knowledge they already have to a sector they may never have thought would be related.

Ofsted rated the College’s welfare provisions as ‘outstanding’, and the College is recognised for preparing students thoroughly for the working world no matter their age.

Whether you are looking to progress in your own personal development, or whether you are a business looking to upgrade your team’s skillset you will find the right course to fit your needs at BTC.
