Team BC Development Day - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Over 70 prospective students in Years 10 and 11 from across the South West attended the Team BC Development Day at Bridgwater College. The aim of the day was to engage the students by helping them gain a better understanding of the sport provision offered at the College.

Students were given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Team BC environment and given information about the benefits of being part of Team BC. Benefits included viewing the facilities, hearing about the therapy options available to them and spending time with Team BC staff and coaches.

The morning consisted of multi sports activities where they were able to use the gym facilities and try activities they hadn’t tried before such as studio cycling. These sessions were delivered by current student captains and volunteers, who were also available to answer questions and give a real account of the student experience they have received at Bridgwater College.

In the afternoon students had the opportunity to break into their sport specific areas, meeting the coaches and discussing their personal development requirements within the programme. The students took part in sessions across a wide range of sports including football, hockey, basketball, netball, rugby and golf.

The day concluded with a presentation from Team BC and a Q&A session. There was also awards for athletes of the day, these given to netballer Tiana Date-Jeremy from Haygrove School, and Jordan Lovibond who plays football for Taunton and District FA.

Bridgwater College Academy student, Kirsty Richards said,

“The Team BC Development Day was an exciting, skilful and engaging day. I built upon skills I already had as well as learning new ones. The coaches were interactive, friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and am looking forward to starting College in September.”

Sam Reilly, Head of Sport, Outdoor Education and Public Services, added,

“It is our aim to provide learners with high aspirations and allow them to reach their sporting potential. The Team BC Development Day provided learners with a flavour of the high-quality coaching offered to them and provided players with an opportunity to train and compete against some of the best players in the region.”
