Team BTC Weekly Roundup

Netball 1s

Team BTC Netball went to the regional tournament on Wednesday. The tournament was split into 2 pools, team BTC was in pool B. They had 3 games, the first game again Richard Huish, at BTC was leading from the beginning, Huish pulled back so that at half time it was 3-3, the second half saw Huish pull away. Truro was the second game, this game also at half time was a draw, and even though BTC carried on pushing them till the end, they came away with a loss. The final game the team was against Yeovil, the team started so strong, pulling the score away from the beginning and coming away with a win. The team put on a fantastic effort throughout the day, showing resilience and passion throughout the whole day. Even though they didn’t get through to the final the whole team stayed to support the other colleges in the semi-final and final, showing true sportsmanship.

BTC made the short trip to Taunton to compete in this years South West Regional 7s. First match of the day was against local rivals Richard Huish where BTC were pipped at the end after a tightly contested match ending 24-12. Next up BTC failed to get out of the blocks against a strong Exeter side going down 31-7. After the frustrating start to the day BTC had their best performance of the day beating Truro 26-12. To round out the day, with heavy rain proving a challenge for both teams, BTC battled back from being a try down at half time to run out 15-7 winners against Petroc.

Women’s Rugby

Kings of Wessex 58 – 32 Team BTC

BTC took on Kings of Wessex playing a format of 7 a side which gave them opportunities to showcase their skills and threat in attack. BTC managed to build their hard work and physicality being in wet and muddy conditions.

POTM – Katie Escott for her commitment to every tackle and work rate off the ball.

Men’s Football

BTC took a mixed squad of 1st and 2nd team players to the AOC South West Regionals due to the emphatic FA Youth Cup win the night before from our U18’s.

They got off with the perfect start beating Swindon College 3-0 Afonso Almeida scoring a hat trick.

The next game was against Yeovil who BTC would later meet in the final, with defences on top, this game ended in a draw.

The final group game BTC defeated Truro 1-0 with Afonso scoring his 4th goal of the day. This meant BTC topped their group going into the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals BTC met R.Huish and after a tense game Ryan Hibbert scored in ET to send BTC into the final vs Yeovil.

The final was a very nervy game with neither team wanting to make the first mistake, with chances at both ends, it was Tom Symonds who scored the only goal BTC to win the South West Regionals. An incredible achievement from the team, going undefeated through the day and not even conceding one goal.

Jamie Laird (Team BTC Manager) said, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours for our BTC Men’s football programme, with getting through to the FA Youth Cup First round on the Tuesday evening and then going onto become champions in the AOC South West Regionals. In the past 6 years we have now won the SW Regionals 3 times and finished runners up 3 times. The team will now progress to the AOC National Championships held at Nottingham University next April, where they will represent the South West and try to become National Champions like our Women’s football team did in April this year.”

A dominant second half performance for Team BTC as they struck the net on 3 more occasions and saw out the game with ease.

MOTM goes to Taylor Davies for exceptional goal scoring prowess.
