University Centre Somerset (UCS) Netball

UCS 51 – 43 Solent 2

In the first quarter, UCS fought for goals back and forth. Although heads were down, they kept pushing and finished the first quarter only 4 points down. With Summer (C) becoming free, and driving away from her defender, and Ria (WD) taking the second pass, holding her player meant that she could enable the opposition from getting closer to the shooting third.

Score: UCS 7 – 11 SOLENT

The second quarter started off with a few changes; Katie (WD) and Alisha (WA). Katie (WD) worked very well alongside Fiona (GD), and with communication and coordination they were able to successfully make turnovers, leading to more goals being scored. Alisha (WA) effectively weaved in to receive centre passes, making space for Tilly (C) to drive closer to the circle. UCS finished on a positive note and were now up by 2.

Score: UCS 26 – 24 SOLENT

Shooters Lexie (GA) and Keira (GS) worked extremely well coordinating strong passes, holding players and driving out to free the circle. Successful far and close shots were being made. The team supported and helped each other to work the ball down the court, and UCS stayed positive, working very hard. However, UCS were now down by 1 point.

Score: UCS 34 – 35 SOLENT

The final quarter defenders Sofia (GK) and Fiona (GD) applied pressure to attackers, intercepting and gaining possession over many balls. With the team working together down the court and with successful consecutive shots being made, UCS had finally gained the lead. With hard work and great performance the team was able to finish off with another win!
