Men’s 3 Football

Team BTC 4 – St Brendans 3

The game started in St Brendan’s favour. St Brendan’s drew first blood with a fantastic strike from 25 years hitting the stanchion. Moments later St Brendan’s struck again after a spill from the keeper and tapped into the open net. Team BTCwere 2-0 down in 20 minutes.

At half time Jake Meads long through ball finding Mr Green through on goal as he finished smartly. With 40 minutes on the clock they grabbed the ball from the net like we were in extra time. St Brendan’s had given us a lifeline. Moments later Mr Green is through on goal again this time opting to skip past the keeper and slot into the net. It had a touch of Brazilian Ronaldo about it. 2-2 game on. Team BTC were now showing the character and drive we expect from our teams. Ash Higgins showed bravery chasing a lose ball and bundled into the keeper only for it to pop out to him to finish. BTC were in front. Ash celebrated like it was the FA cup final and for a moment it felt like it was.

The introduction of Victor added another dimension as seconds later he lashed a shot straight down the throats of the keeper from a wide position. We had to feel for the keeper as it popped out between his legs and rolled into the net. Not how we planned to score but we will take it. What a turn around. 2-0 down at half time and now 4-2 up.

St Brendan’s started probing and a smartly taken free kick driven low gave St Brendan’s a lifeline with minutes left on the clock. They pushed and played more direct but BTC stood strong. In the final play of the game there was a 50/50 penalty shout for St Brendan’s we have certainly seen them given. The ref blew for what we thought was a penalty, only for him to prolong and style out the whistle into the final whistle of the game. 4-3 final result. The team came off the pitch absolutely buzzing and there was a real togetherness between the players.

Man of the match Mr Green for his goals and tireless running. Well done.
