Team BTC Weekly Roundup (22.02.2024) - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Basketball

Team BTC 90 – 63 Plymouth

BTC welcomed Plymouth City Patriots Academy (PCP) and hoped to bounce back from a close defeat to Truro 3 before half term.

The game started with both teams trying to find their rhythm on offense and they game was tied 9-9 halfway through the 1st quarter. The introduction of G. Das Neves, M. Ajayi and Mc. Joseph propelled BTC to finish the quarter strong with a 23-18 lead.

PCP’s B. Hummerstone was doing his best to keep his team in the game with 12 of PCP’s 17 points in the 2nd quarter. This wasn’t enough to stop BTC going in at HT with a 47-35 lead with impressive shooting from A. King and clinical finishing in the paint from G. Das Neves.

F.Rose was tasked with stopping PCP’s B. Hummerstone and did a great job with the latter only able to 5 points, whilst Rose was able to score 4 points of his own. The strong defense enabled BTC to take the game further away from PCP by extending the lead to 69-48.

BTC were full of confidence and moving the ball around with purpose and started the 4th quarter with a 17-4 run to increase the lead to 34 points. A. Taylor was picking apart the PCP defence with multiple assists. PCP finished the game with a flurry of baskets, but the result finished 90-63 in BTC’s favour.

This was a fantastic team performance by Team BTC who put in their best performance of the season, certainly from an offensive perspective with 4 players reaching double figures for points.

MVP was Alfie King with 28 points, but he was ably assisted by; Genildo Das Neves (20), Alex Taylor (16) and Mike Ajayi (14).

Netball 2s

Team BTC 16 – 21 Weston

Netball 2s played extremely well against Weston on Wednesday, the team were focused and had great communication all throughout, and finished the second quarter 11-7 to BTC.

The team kept positive and showed a good variety of movement down the court. The girls kept pushing through and heads were still high. Defensive and attacking players worked fantastically to keep the ball. Despite the loss by just 3 the team were very composed and supported each other very well. Finishing the game 20-17 to Weston.
