Team BTC Weekly Round-up (19 Oct) - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Team BTC 5 -1 Coleg y Cymoedd

Women’s Football travelled to a picturesque Ystrad Mynach to play Coley y Cymoedd in the second round of the Women’s Knockout Cup, which was their first competitive fixture of the season.

BTC broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when a persistent Bedford forcing the opposing defence to lose possession. This allowed Barry to effortlessly place the ball into the bottom corner. As the game progressed, Cymoedd started to grow stronger, but a composed Mitchell was able to deflect their opponents.

In the 40th minute, Team BTC were successful in making a return to the score sheet. This was thanks to Barry who was able to force her way through a handful of Cymoedd defenders before executing a powerful strike into the far corner from 35 yards. This was quickly followed by Bedford who made a skilful finish just before half time.

A fourth goal was attained after Barry was fouled in the box, Nicholls stepped up and slammed the resulting penalty into the bottom corner, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

In the 60th minute BTC made three changes which saw the introduction of Webster, Charles and Sharkey. This quickly led to a debut goal for Sharkey who received the ball from Webster and found a lovely pocket of space in the box. Sharkey slotted it home and kissed the badge to celebrate.

Cymoedd did manage to get on the score sheet in the 70th minute when a defensive lapse allowed the forward to slam the ball into the bottom corner. Team BTC controlled the last 15 minutes of the game on the account of having long spells of possession.

Netball

In the second round of the cup, Netball 1s took on SGS. A strong SGS side, meant Team BTC had to work hard to get the ball down the court to gain some points. There were moments of brilliant play by the team, followed by long bomb shots from Keira Bate. SGS made the teamwork for every goal, although the persistence and determination from Team

BTC meant they persevered through all 60 minutes. Team BTC’s defence managed to turn the ball over and put pressure on the SGS attack, this created more opportunities for the team to score. In the last quarter of the game, Team BTC gave a final push and managed to get more points on the board. Even though each players tried their best it wasn’t meant to be for Team BTC as SGS won the game.
