Toby, a member of the England Judo Squad and was invited to participate in a gruelling England Talent assessment day which consisted of numerous physical tests. England Judo has seen cuts to the number cadet/juniors within this specific squad, with only 40 places available to the whole England squad, so the pressure was on.

Toby was required to undertake a Multi Stage Fitness Test (MSFT) and had to achieve Level 10.1, however Toby pushed through and achieved Level 11.5. Toby said,

“As a result of the testing I undertook in the Public Services Fitness Testing Unit at College, I was fully prepared for this specific test.”

Further tests included the static jump test, press ups in time with a metro timer, and a sit and reach test. Matt Weekes, Toby’s Tutor, and former Royal Marine said,

“Toby is a hard working student, both academically and physically and it is apparent he is a talented athlete who has the potential of representing his country at the highest level.”

Toby’s father said,

“Toby worked really hard on the day and was rewarded with his hard efforts of being accepted onto the Judo England Talent Development (ETD) squad, I am very proud of his efforts.”
