In celebration of National Tree Week, horticulture and countryside students and staff at Cannington College joined forces with the Principals of Bridgwater, Cannington, Strode, and Taunton Colleges to plant trees across each of the colleges.

This collaborative initiative demonstrates UCS College Group’s commitment to sustainability, environmental education, and inter-college partnership. Staff and students came together to mark the start of the tree planting season, with each Principal personally taking part in planting a tree at their respective college.

The trees were carefully selected and planted with support from the expert horticulture and countryside staff at Cannington College. The project not only highlighted the importance of trees in promoting biodiversity and improving local environments but also served as a practical learning opportunity for students involved in land-based and environmental studies.

National Tree Week, coordinated by The Tree Council, is the UK’s largest annual tree celebration, encouraging communities to come together to plant and care for trees.

Jason Kilduff, Principal of Cannington College said,

“This was a simple but meaningful gesture that reflects our ongoing dedication to sustainability and working together as a group. We’re proud to support National Tree Week and give our students the opportunity to be part of something that has lasting environmental impact.”

The planted trees will grow as living symbols of education and environmental responsibility across the UCS College Group, reminding staff and students alike of the role they play in shaping a greener future.
