Bridgwater College, part of University Centre Somerset College Group, has proudly welcomed eight new ECITB Pipefitting Scholars, reinforcing its commitment to developing engineering talent across the South West.
The scholars are embarking on the prestigious ECITB Scholarship programme in partnership with Bridgwater College. This full-time, off-the-job training initiative focuses on key engineering construction disciplines, including pipefitting, and is designed to equip learners with the skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the industry.
An inductions event hosted by Plessey Black at Bridgwater College marked the official start of their training. The programme blends practical and theoretical components aligned with industry standards, ensuring scholars gain essential certifications, sit passports, and hands-on experience. Many graduates progress into apprenticeships or secure direct employment within the engineering construction sector.
This initiative forms part of the Engineering Construction Industry’s Training Board’s (ECITB) broader strategy to address skills shortages in industrial cluster areas and build a sustainable pipeline of skilled workers for the UK’s engineering future.
