Course Overview

The duration of this course is 11-13 weeks.

The aim of this qualification is to develop a learner’s knowledge and understanding of how to improve their own personal exercise, health and nutrition.

Unit 1

Understand health, well-being and exercise.

Section 1 Understand the concepts of health and well-being.

Section 2 Understand factors that could have a negative impact on health and well-being.

Section 3 Understand factors affecting personal motivation.

Section 4 Understand basic anatomy and physiology.

Unit 2

Understand the role of nutrition in exercise.

Section 1 Understand diet and nutrition for exercise.

Section 2 Understand energy requirements for exercise.

Section 3 Understand fluid replacement for exercise.

Unit 3

Plan and prepare for personal exercise and nutrition.

Section 1 Understand the importance of exercising safely.

Section 2 Know how to measure personal fitness levels.

Section 3 Know how to follow an appropriate personal programme of exercise and nutrition.

Section 4 Know how to evaluate the personal programme of exercise and nutrition.

Assessment Methods

Assessment are due at the end of each unit.  Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence of learning.  A certificate will be awareded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.

In this unit, learners will assess their current fitness levels, set targets and devise an appropriate exercise/nutrition plan, and maintain a diary over a period of time. They’ll then evaluate the programme, their progress and set new targets. Learners must be able to complete a fitness programme that they design themselves.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility for FREE Level 2 Distance Learning courses:



  • Learners must be aged 19 years old or over as of 31 August in the current
    academic year.

  • Must have lived in the EU for the last three years

  • Must currently reside in England, in a postal code outside of
    Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley,
    Greater London Authority (GLA), West Yorkshire Combined Authority, West
    Midlands.

  • If aged 19-23, must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any
    subject (i.e QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three.
    AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ
    Intermediate, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).

  • If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.

An administration fee will be incurred if you withdraw from the
course.
