As a team leader/supervisor, you should be in a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. You will be providing direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever your role.
Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.
This Apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career and who wish to take their first steps into management, as well as those who may already have established practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.
It is applicable to team leaders/ supervisors from all sectors – the private, public or third sector – and all sizes of organisation It will typically take up to 1 ½ years to complete, although the exact duration will be dependent on the previous experience of the individual.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will study a CMI Level 3 Diploma in Management & Leadership which will cover the knowledge elements required. This comprises of the following units:

This is a blend of knowledge-focussed workshops and the recording of practical skills and behaviours, meeting the following requirements:
Achievement of the apprenticeship will depend on apprentices successfully completing a number of assessment activities.
The methods used will ensure that the apprentice is assessed across the whole of the published standard.
Apprentices are allocated a Skills Coach to guide you through your learning journey.
They are available by telephone, email and via online means to discuss course materials and give support and assistance.
Site visits to employer premises to conduct reviews / performance observations and offer guidance are arranged as well as support and assessment in the virtual learning environment.
The decision to process to the End-Point Assessment (to complete your apprenticeship and determine grading), will be taken by your line manager (employer) and yourself, with input from your BTC Skills Coach.
On successful completion, you may choose to register as an Associate member with the Chartered Management Institute to support your professional career development and progression.
With promotion to a junior/middle management position (one year minimum) you can consider the L5 Operations/ Departmental Manager Apprenticeship.
