Course Overview

This course has been created to provide work experience to develop basic industry skills, with a focus on communication and client care. It will apply to those who have a keen interest in working within the hair and beauty industry.

This is an exciting bespoke course that will develop your learning and personal growth in a nurturing and supportive environment. You will develop excellent communication skills, building practical skills in a multiple sector envionment, to help you prepare for progression and employment within the hair and beauty sector.

Units may include:

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Health & Safety in hair and beauty salons
  • Basic skin care
  • Mini facial
  • Mini manicure and pedicure
  • Shampoo and condition the hair
  • Applying temporary colour to the hair
  • Styling, plaiting and twisting techniques
  • Employability and personal skill

You will also gain experience working in our commercial salons and clinics in an assisting role or through friends and family sessions.

Assessment Methods

Some of your units will be assessed through practical observation and other elements of the course will be assessed by written assignments.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the course, you may progress on to a Level 2 course in hairdressing, beauty therapy, barbering or media make-up. This will depend on the progress that you make during the course.

You need GCSEs in the 3 to 1 range, or other equivalent qualifications. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and induction.

The course has given me an insight into what I could do within the industry when I graduate, and I particularly enjoy the open clinic sessions when we work on the general public.
