We’re delighted to host an evening of guest lectures on ‘Mental Health and Awareness Support’, open to people from all walks of life who would like to expand their knowledge of this increasingly important subject, from a personal point of view or as part of their Continued Professional Development.
Hannah Sherfield-Wright from Wright Way Training, Luke Parish from Luke Parish Coaching Ltd, and University Centre Somerset staff will be among the speakers. The event is being organised by our Teacher Training team, who will also be on hand to take questions about the Certificate in Education and PGCE opportunities available at the College.
Hannah set up Wright Way Training in 2022, after teaching Health Sciences for several years in the Further Education sector. She says, “This session will provide the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, enable a start to a supportive conversation and provide guidance to signpost to relevant professional help. It will inform attendees about the first aid action plan for mental health and enable them to put the plan in place”.
Luke has a BSc in Psychology, works locally as a teacher with 16–19-year-olds, and has been a qualified performance coach for the last 6 years helping raise attainment and outcomes in a variety of educational settings. His own coaching business has a focus on Mindset confidence, utilising a range of skills to help increase self-esteem, motivation and confidence in young people, with the vision of providing a tool kit to face life’s challenges. Luke has recently published his first book “Boost: A Journey to Boosting Confidence for Young Minds”.
