Football coaching students try out a different format of ‘The Beautiful Game’ - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Last month our Level 3 Football Coaching students and staff travelled to Swindon Futsal Arena to compete in a tournament against each other. As part of their course it was an exciting opportunity to experience another form of football which is the ever growing game of futsal.

On the back of the trip Somerset FA will be coming into deliver a FA Level 1 Futsal qualification to selected students and staff to add to the FA Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Football qualification they already do on the course.

The students were split into five teams all playing each other twice. All games were played in a very respectable manner with lots of quality on show from all.

It was also Football Shirt Friday which meant that all the staff and students wore their beloved football team’s strips to raise awareness in aid of Bowel Cancer. Paul Bennet even brought his very own Coventry City home kit, which was worn by student Jack Morris.

Mario Franco, Level 3 Football Coaching student, said,

“I thoroughly enjoyed the day and gave us all a chance to play lots of football. Futsal is a much faster pace and challenges you a lot more technically than 11 v 11. I would definitely recommend it to others that have the opportunity to play.”

Jamie Laird, Level 3 Course Leader, said,

“It was a great day and gave our students the opportunity to experience another format of the game. Futsal is getting bigger and bigger each year with the amount of participants, which is something our students can get into both playing and coaching in the future.”
