From College to Vogue magazine - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Vanessa studied Art & Design at Bridgwater & Taunton College and is now doing an internship with Vogue magazine.

I studied the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design, and I am now a student at Falmouth University. I have done work experience at Vogue magazine in London and I am spending this Easter holiday completing an internship with them!

During my work experience with Vogue, I have worked in the art department carrying out picture research and editing, emailed and phoned clients, worked on articles for the printed magazine and for online. I also assisted on a photo shoot at Loft Studios for an article called ‘Meet The New Suffragettes’, for the February issue shot by the incredible photographer, Julia Hetta.

After this internship with Vogue, I aspire to assist more photographers, work with brands and gain as much as practical industry experience as possible.

I chose to study the Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design at college so that I could learn about each artistic medium and discover which to pursue. My studies at Bridgwater & Taunton College have really fed into the work I’m producing now and helped me to appreciate the importance of the theory of photography and art history. The transition to university was very supportive, lessons were booked for this specifically and covered CV writing, UCAS applications and putting together a strong portfolio.

Two years go extremely quick therefore I would advise anyone to take up the great opportunities Bridgwater & Taunton College offers. So much can change in such a small amount of time, so connect with the creative people around you – they will support you in the future!
