BTC Students apply for 999 Academy Places - Bridgwater & Taunton College

On Thursday 23rd June, hopeful applicants to the Bridgwater 999 Academy were interviewed at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) by members of the Academy Delivery team.

They also took part in a fitness test run by former 999 Academy students Lili Ibbotson, who is an on-call firefighter from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, and Harry Burrows who starts his career with the service in September.  PC Chris Lee from Avon and Somerset Police and Paramedic Ellie Humphreys from South Western Ambulance Service (SWAST) conducted the interviews, while Starlena Hancock, also from SWAST, ran observation skills tests.

Twenty students from A Levels, Uniformed Protective Services, Health (Nursing) T levels and Health & Social Care were offered places and are all very excited to start in September.

Ruth Burrows, manager of the programme, said how excited she is about the new cohort and also extremely proud that the delivery team is made up of former BTC and 999 Academy students, who are all now employed by the emergency services as Police Officers, Paramedics and Fire Fighters.
