WorldSkills UK Gold medal triumph for florist Laura - Bridgwater & Taunton College

WorldSkills UK LIVE 2018 was the biggest and best interactive apprenticeship and skills event that the UK has seen this year, showcasing the brightest and best young learners from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The NEC in Birmingham was buzzing with excitement as young people from across the country met with around 200 employers, FE colleges and independent training providers – each demonstrating the fantastic opportunities offered by apprenticeships and technical careers.

One of the live competitions saw eight of the top Florists within the UK compete over three days and our very own Laura Williams won the coveted Gold medal. Laura is one of the rare few to win through to this competition two years in a row having already gained a Highly Commended in 2017.

Laura runs her own Floristry business in Gillingham, Dorset and proudly displays her winning certificates on the walls of her shop.

Course Leader Jacqui Weaver said,

“2018 has been an amazing year for the College’s Floristry department. Two students competed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and gained Bronze medals, a staff member won a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence Award and now Laura’s Gold medal is the icing on the cake. Such accolades are the result of the high aspirations our students and team aim for, and the hard work has certainly paid off. Many congratulations to all!”
