Being part of the BTC Activators allows students to gain valuable sport development and coaching experience in a variety of sports. It also encourages the students to learn and develop key skills required in the workplace such as, teamwork, organisation, communication and timekeeping.
BTC Activators are rewarded for their time and dedication by receiving personalised college sports wear and the opportunity to work towards subsidised coaching qualifications, thanks to the College’s relationship with the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) and Somerset Football Association (SFA)
Tackling Inactivity Project Lead Nathan Dyte explains:
Being a BTC Activator gives students a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable work experience that fits around their lifestyle. We don’t ask the student to give up huge amounts of their time, only what they can afford to. Our aim is to ensure the BTC Activators are a step above in their coaching development and it gives them the edge when progressing to further study or paid employment. The volunteers in this programme are key to help engage students across college to be more physically active and it is a pleasure to see them develop as coaches and young leaders.
The BTC Activator programme doesn’t just focus on those who want to coach, there is also the opportunity to link with the Media Academy on projects such as match reporting, creating promotional videos for Active session and engagement through social media platforms.
