The qualification is designed for learners seeking the skills and knowledge needed to develop a business start-up. It will give learners an understanding of the initial processes and requirements of a business start-up, knowledge of the first steps in creating a business start-up, including the marketing, legal and financial requirements, and an understanding of how to write a business plan.

Assessment 2-

Legal and Financial Considerations for a Business Start-up

  • Section 1 Understand HMRC and tax requirements
  • Section 2 Understand legislation for the business start-up
  • Section 3 Understand cash, profit and cash flow
  • Section 4 Understand management of customers and suppliers

Developing a Business Plan

  • Section 1 Understand the purpose of a business plan
  • Section 2 Develop a business plan

Assessment Methods

Assessments are due at the end of each unit. Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility for FREE Level 2 Distance Learning courses:



  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at 31/08/19

  • Must have lived in the EU for the last three years

  • Must currently reside in England, in a post code outside of
    Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley
    and the West Midlands.

  • Must have a full Level 2 qualification or above in any subject (i.e QCF
    Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three AS Levels, CSE
    grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ Intermediate, First
    Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level
    2).

  • Unemployed and claiming benefits, and using the qualification to obtain
    work.
