Photography Advanced Diploma - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This one year course will spend most of the time working with pure photography. Project work will range from documentary, still life and fine art.

Project-based work is set within themes broadly constructed to allow for a high level of personal interpretation. Students are encouraged to set their own patterns of work within time limits. Involvement with objective photography is maintained but a deeper individual exploration of method, techniques and motivation will be expected.

For all students, appreciation of general art and design history is considered a vital element of the course on all levels. A pattern of visits and workshops is maintained to encourage students to place their studies in the context of both current and past cultural achievements in the field of art and design. Students are also encouraged to visit local exhibitions of artists’ and students’ work.

  • Facilities and tuition from professionals in a professional setting
  • A year long course designed to develop skills and a portfolio
  • Social opportunities
  • Practising photographers and former students are invited to exhibit and talk about their work within the College itself

Assessment Methods

Spotlight

An apprenticeship has been the best option for me since I benefit from working in the industry as well as gaining a qualification. College days give me time to work on my assignments and explore features in the software I haven’t covered at work. During the rest of the week, I develop client relationships which help build my confidence and improve my ability to express ideas.
