Course Overview
This course is for people who have a genuine interest in working in the hair and make-up industry. This exciting course is for those who would like to progress on to a Level 3 course to become a make-up artist or study the Foundation Degree in Media Make-up at our Taunton campus.
Units may include:
- Follow health and safety practices in the salon
- Apply make-up
- Provide eyelash and brow treatments
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- The art of photographic make-up
- Body art design
- Apply skin tanning techniques
- The art of colouring hair and dressing hair
- Make and style a hair addition.
Assessment Methods
Assessments take place throughout the course and include written coursework, online examinations, practical assessments and a final exam. You will also build a portfolio of your work.
Progression Options
On successful completion of the course, you could progress on to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media Make-up for TV, Film and Theatre or find employment as a trainee Make-up Artist or Stylist.

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range including English, maths and science, or an appropriate Level 1 qualification with GCSE requirements. All applicants require a successful interview. |

Spotlight
The work experience opportunities at BTC have been really beneficial. I started by helping out at Cedar Falls Health Farm & Spa, and by the end of the week, I was giving complementary treatments. Now I’ve completed my Level 2 and am starting to study my Level 3, I work there part-time which is great for my coursework.
