Amazing Apprenticeship opportunities in Steel Fixing & Shuttering Carpentry.
This Apprenticeship is delivered at our state-of-the-art Construction Skills & Innovation Centre in Cannington, which is equipped with a vast range of Steel Fixing tasks and is really leading the field.
Steel Fixing is the construction of various modules to reinforced concrete i.e. beams, walls, columns, pile caps and slabs.
The course is made up of tutorials, workshops and practicals.
There are 11 units to be studied, covering health and safety practices and interpretation of drawings both 2D and 3D.
In teams, candidates can construct steel cages to form beams, walls, columns and suspended slabs up to 12x12m suspended 2m above the ground. The platforms are staggered down the sloping site, surrounded by landscaped banks with a central access track.
It also has concrete infrastructures to facilitate bespoke training in steel fixing operations – one of the critical skills for the nuclear new build – enabling steelfixing training to be delivered via large-scale, practical team-based tasks. Learners capture ‘live’ assessment evidence by means of helmet-mounted ‘Go-Pro’ cameras as they complete each task.
You will complete your CSCS Apprentice Red Card, and by the end of the Apprenticeship will receive your Blue Card (on successful completion of the CSCS test). If employed by BYLOR, you will be placed at Europe’s biggest construction site, Hinkley Point C Power Station, building the super-structure of the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK for 30 years!
In response to demand from major construction companies who require steel fixers to have CSCS cards to operate on site, we now offer a range of courses so that workers can prove their competence.
Our realistic working environment – the Steel Fixing Arena – consists of a series of platforms, where courses are adapted so that training represents a typical workplace.
CSIC’s team are industry professional trainers and assessors, who are passionate about delivering the very best training.
This, combined with this state-of-the-art facility, ensures some of the highest completion rates in the country.
