Course Overview

Our integrated training and assessment programme will provide you with the basic principles of horse care and how to safely and efficiently undertake daily tasks. This will include routine grooming, mucking out, bedding down, cleaning and adjusting tack and providing food and water.

Progression Options

Successful completion of both the BHS Silver Challenge Awards – Care and the Silver Challenge Award and Lunge – provides direct entry to the BHS Stage 2 Care and Lunge. A full and detailed syllabus may be obtained from the British Horse Society website.

  • Riders must be able to walk, trot, and canter confidently and have worked
    over small jumps.

Spotlight

Throughout the week we have classroom-based theory lessons like stud management, horse fitness and training, equestrian teaching and business. I also ride twice a week at College; I have a lesson improving my riding technique on the flat with Gold Medallist endurance rider Jane McGuiness, and a jumping lesson.
