Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship Level 2 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This apprenticeship is for anyone who wants to work, or currently works as part of the greenkeeping and golf industry and prefers combining their practical abilities with the development of knowledge and understanding of greenkeeping activities. It provides the perfect opportunity to work in a wide range of environmental situations with links, parkland and heathland golf courses throughout the UK.

You will work with your employer for four days a week and train for one day either at your workplace or at our Cannington campus, making use of the College’s excellent facilities as well as using an e-portfolio to collate your work.

Subjects may include:

  • Maintaining the health of sports turf
  • Presenting and repairing sports turf
  • Use and maintain equipment and machinery
  • Prepare and operate a tractor and attachments
  • Health and safety

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through a variety of methods including the completion of the Greenkeeper Training logbook, practical assessments, written coursework and a final assessment involving a multiple choice underpinning knowledge paper, practical assessment at our golf course and a personal statement.

Progression Options

You could progress to supervisory level employment within the industry or the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Sports Turf. Alternatively you could find employment.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 2 range , and either hold or have the ability to
achieve a 3 or 2 in English and Maths GCSEs, or Level 1 Functional
skills qualification. Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will
undertake an initial assessment in English and Maths.

Once I complete my course, my dream is to work for The National Trust or travel and find employment in gardens abroad. The course has helped me see all the opportunities available to me, so I feel confident my future looks bright.
