Course Overview

You need to be employed to start an Apprenticeship. Please visit our vacancy page or if you have an employer, please ensure you add full contact details of your employer within your application. If you are unable to secure employment, you could enrol on a full-time study programme and transfer to an Apprenticeship at a later date. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option.

The course is for individuals who are looking for an apprenticeship which combines both the management and delivery of sport activities which increase participation and engagement with their community. The apprenticeship will enable an existing coach to develop skills in the provision of community based sport and health activities and events.

The apprenticeship will cover a range of knowedge and skills units which include:

• Understanding participation behavours and how to engage people in sport
• Coaching a sport and making adjustments to engage people of different abilities and goals
• Use of social media to market activities, keeping records and using software to analyse outcomes
• Engaging with key stakeholders, community groups, NGB’s, and professional networks
• Presenting, negotiating and bidding for grants and funds to support new activity/projects.
• Leadership and coaching
• Creative thinking and problem solving to meet complex needs or specific participation groups
• Management of physical and human resources

Assessment Methods

This apprenticeship will be assessed through an End Point Assessment (EPA), which consists of:

• Observed partnership/network meeting
• Presentation on project/event undertaken
• Panel interview
• Timed case study

During the apprenticeship, learners will be visited regularly by a qualified assessor to check progression and ensure they are bulding evidence towards their EPA.  Weekly training takes place on-line.

Progression Options

Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to the Level 5 Apprenticeship for Operational/Departmental Manager.
