At BTC, we believe that diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords; they're fundamental values that underpin everything we do. We're committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background, feels valued and respected.
The Equality & Diversity Policy demonstrates our commitment to equal opportunity for all those working and studying at our college. This policy applies at all times to staff, students, customers and suppliers. All users have the right to be treated equally, with dignity and respect and without being subjected to discrimination.
We have a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination, harassment, and race crimes, and we take these issues extremely seriously. We believe that everyone, students and staff alike, is equal and deserving of respect, and we’re committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe and supported.
At BTC, we celebrate diversity and embrace differences. We’re proud of our inclusive community, which is made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and identities. We believe that this diversity is our strength and allows us to create a vibrant and dynamic learning environment.
Bridgwater & Taunton College endorses the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s ‘working definition’ of antisemitism, which reads as follows:
“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
This endorsement is complimented by our ongoing commitment to uphold the statutory duty to protect freedom of expression under Section 43 of the Education (No. 2) Act (1986).
The College’s Equality & Diversity Annual Report summarises key actions that we have taken towards the achievement of equality & diversity during the last academic year.
