Course Overview

This is a Distance Learning course, so there is no need to attend College.

The aim of this qualification is to increase learners’ knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses to enable them to support the development and well-being of infants and children they support and care for.

Unit 1 – Understand how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children

  • Section 1 Understand how infection is spread
  • Sectoin 2 Understand ways to minimise cross infection when working with babies and young children
  • Section 3 Understand the role of policies and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children
  • Section 4 Understand the role of healthy initiatives when working with babies, young children and families

Unit 2 – Understand common childhood illnesses

  • Section 1 Understand how to recognise when a baby or young child is unwell
  • Section 2 Understand how to support and care for a baby or young child who is unwell in the early years setting
  • Section 3 Understand the policies and procedures relating to the care of babies and young children who are unwell in an early years setting

Unit 3 – Understand health emergencies and specific health conditions in an early years setting

  • Section 1 Understand accidents that may occur in an early years setting
  • Section 2 Understand serious illness in babies and young children
  • Section 3 Understand the management of acute and chronic health conditions in an early years setting
  • Section 4 Understand allergies and food intolerance

Assessment Methods

Assessment are due at the end of each unit. Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awareded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility criteria for a FREE Level 2 Distance Learning
course:



  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at 31/08/19

  • Must have lived in the EU for the last three years

  • Must currently reside in England, in a post code outside of
    Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley,
    the West Midlands, WECA (West of England Combined Authority),
    Greater London Authority (GLA) and the
    North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA).

  • If aged 19-24, must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any
    subject (i.e QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three
    AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ
    Intermediate, First Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of
    Learning Level 2). If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.

An administration fee will be incurred if you withdraw from the
course.
