Research Skills for Academic Study

Section 1 Understand how to plan research on a given topic

Section 2 Assess the reliability of a range of different types of information sources

Section 3 Know how to utilise information to inform own writing

Section 4 Know how to develop a personal healthy lifestyle plan

Unit 3

Introduction to Physical Disability

Section 1 Know the importance of a person centred approach when working with individuals with a physical disability

Section 2 Know the main causes of physical disability

Section 3 Know how the challenges of living with a physical disability can be addressed

Unit 4

Introduction to Mental Health

Section 1 Know the importance of a person centred approach when working with individuals with mental health problems

Section 2 Know the main factors that can cause mental health problems

Section 3 Understand the importance of effective communication with individuals who have mental health problems

Unit 5

Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care

Section 1 Know how to recognise signs of abuse

Section 2 Know how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse

Section 3 Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse

Section 4 Understand the ways to reduce the likelihood of abuse

Section 5 Know how to recognise and report unsafe practices

Unit 6

Preparing for a Career in Health and Social Care Professions

Section 1 Know about the career structure and job opportunities in an identified health or social care profession

Section 2 Know how to prepare for a career in an identified health or social care profession

Assessment Methods

Assessments are due at the end of each unit.  Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence learning.  A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.

The staff have backgrounds in the specific course in which you want to take which helps to get another person’s view on what it’s like to work in the sector and also the course covers all areas of the subject and there is nothing that isn’t covered within the syllabus and modules.
