Course Overview

The duration of this course is 16-20 weeks. Guided learning hours are 8-10 hours per week dependent upon knowledge of the subject.

This qualification aims to give learners knowledge of different specific learning difficulties , how they are diagnosed and how individuals can be supported. The qualification can be used by a wide range of learners looking to improve their knowledge and awareness in this subject area.

Unit 2 – Understand the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties

  • Section 2 Understand the strengths and barriers faced by individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties

Unit 3 – Understand the diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties

  • Section 1 Understand the importance of seeking a formal diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties
  • Section 2 Understand the process of diagnosing Specific Learning Difficulties

Unit 4 – Understanding supporting individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties

  • Section 1 Understand how support for individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties can be provided in different settings
  • Section 2 Understand how individualised support is provided

Unit 5 – Understand the context of Specific Learning Difficulties

  • Section 1 Understand how attitudes, legislation and services related to Specific Learning Difficulties have changed over time
  • Section 2 Understand legislation in relation to Specific Learning Difficulties

Assessment Methods


Assessments are due at the end of each unit. Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.


This course will be delivered online or paperbased over 16-20 weeks with 129 guided learning hours.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility for FREE Level 2 Distance Learning courses:



  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at 31/08/19

  • Must have lived in the EU for the last three years

  • Must currently reside in England, in a postal code outside of
    Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley,
    the West Midlands
    and WECA (West of England Combined
    Authority).

  • If aged 19-23, must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any
    subject (i.e QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three.
    AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ
    Intermediate, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).

  • If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.

The staff have been very supportive they will do anything to help whether it be staying late or putting in 100% to make the lessons more suited to you. The staff have backgrounds in the specific course in which you want to take which helps to get another person’s view on what it’s like to work in the sector and also the course covers all areas of the subject and there is nothing that isn’t covered within the syllabus and modules.
