Course Overview

This qualification is ideal if you are working as a Senior Healthcare Assistant or Senior Healthcare Support Worker role and wish to develop your skills and knowledge to a level which demonstrates that you are competent. You will usually work under the direct supervision of a registered health professional such as a registered nurse.

Mandatory units cover core knowledge and skills competencies. Optional units give opportunity to showcase areas of specialism.

Content includes:

  • Prevention and control of infection
  • Personal development
  • Safeguarding
  • Health, safety and wellbeing

This course runs one morning session a week for one year (accessible online), plus Workplace Assessor visits and one-to-one reviews.

You be expected to complete written assignment work in self-study time at home.

You may wish to buy a textbook to support your learning.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of the qualification mostly takes place in your real work environment whilst you carry out the day-to-day activities. This means that you are also proving your work to a nationally recognised level at the same time as doing your job. You will be expected to create an online portfolio of evidence using various assessment methods including assignments.

Progression Options

On successful completion you could progress to an Apprenticeship at Level 5 such as The Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare or The Nursing Associate.

The staff have been very supportive they will do anything to help whether it be staying late or putting in 100% to make the lessons more suited to you. The staff have backgrounds in the specific course in which you want to take which helps to get another person’s view on what it’s like to work in the sector and also the course covers all areas of the subject and there is nothing that isn’t covered within the syllabus and modules.
