Course Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with an overview of the key data legislation that organisation are require to comply with.

UNIT 1 – Understand Current Data Protection Legislation

  • Section 1 Understand the General Data Protection Regulation
  • Section 2 Understand the purpose of the Data Protection Act
  • Section 3 Understand the purpose of the Freedom of Information Act

UNIT 2 – Understand Organisational Procedures Concerning Data

  • Section 1 Understand organisational procedures concerning data
  • Section 2 Understand procedures to maintain data confidentiality and security

UNIT 3 – Understand Threats to ICT Systems and Data

  • Section 1 Know the common types of threat to ICT systems and data
  • Section 2 Know how to protect ICT systems
  • Section 3 Understand how to protect their own personal data and devices

UNIT 4 – Understand the Consequences of Not Protecting Data

  • Section 1 Understand the potential consequences of not protecting data
  • Section 2 Understand the impact of data breaches on individuals

Assessment Methods

Upon enrolment you will be provided with learner support materials that will give you the knowledge and understanding required to undertake the assessments. To be awarded the qualification you need to successfully complete all of the workbooks.

As you work through the learning materials you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete.

Entry Requirements

Eligibility for FREE Level 2 Distance Learning courses:



  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at 31/08/19

  • Must have lived in the EU for the last three years

  • Must currently reside in England, in a post code outside of
    Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley
    and the West Midlands.

  • Must have a full Level 2 qualification or above in any subject (i.e QCF
    Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three AS Levels, CSE
    grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ Intermediate, First
    Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level
    2).

  • Unemployed and claiming benefits, and using the qualification to obtain
    work.
